8th Annual Bicycle Film Festival LONDON
October 1-5, 2008
Barbican Cinema
Barbican Centre
Silk Street, London

The Bicycle Film Festival celebrates the bicycle. We are into all styles of bikes and biking. If you can name it-Tall Bike Jousting, Track Bikes, BMX, Alleycats, Critical Mass, Bike Polo, Cycling to Recumbents- we’ve probably either ridden or screened it. What better way to celebrate these lifestyles than through art, film, music and performance? We bring together all aspects of bicycling together to advocate its ability to transport us in many ways. Ultimately the Fest is about having a good time.

Paris bike polo

Yorgo (who kicked us off playing polo in London this time last year) seems to have done it again in Paris:

We just started playing Polo in Paris, and it’s fucking awesome!!! We found the BEST spot ever. An empty fountain at the Palais De Tokyo, the contemporary art museum/skate spot on the banks for the Seine River, almost in front of the Eiffel tower. Big flat walled surface, no hassle from other users, central, stunningly classy, toilets and bar nearby, tricks area, chill-out zone, etc…

2008 is the centenary of London bike polo!

Kind of. Cycle polo was featured at as a demonstration sport in the London 1908 Summer Olympics. Ireland won. That;s about as much info as I can dig up, if anyone has any more please let me know!

I went a bit mysteriously quiet, mostly because I haven’t been down to polo in a while due to other things happening. However its still happening and getting even better with the weather warming up towards summer. Check the fixed gear forum for word on improving the polo court with walls.

Work is also ticking over on another polo tournament or two this summer. Watch this space!
