The date is October 5th, entry is free, lots of prizes and organised half time entertainment. After party at the Electricity Showrooms in Hoxton Square.

If you aren’t playing polo on Sunday check out the cycle picnic in London Fields.

One of the organisers sent this message:

Hello Fixie,
Not sure if you know about this, but we are helping organise a cycle event in London Fields on Sunday afternoon. Its aimed at upright lady cyclists, but of course all cycle tribes are welcome. Fixies may be particularly interested in our cinema tent. The guys from Magnificent Revolution are powering the projector and Ray Pascoe has put together a little programme of rare vintage cycle films for us. Its going to be really special! If you’d like to pop down after bike polo you’re all welcome to join us.

Polo in North Yorkshire in the news

BBC News was carrying this video today about the guys in North Yorkshire blogged about a couple of days ago after they appeared in a newspaper article. I have to say I do like the look of grass polo’s rough and ready approach, lack of concern for foot-downs and the general anarchy which seems to happen on such a big pitch! The video piece focusses on bike polo as an olympic sport, as its 100 years on since bicycle polo was demonstrated as a sport in the 1908 Olympics.

Polo from the past

Spotted this on the Hardcourt blog. Scan is from Fixed Gear on Flickr. Photo is from a match at Hearne Hill! Incidentally a bunch of old polo bikes were recently rescued from Hearne Hill
