2013 London Open Bike Polo Tournament

Now in it’s fourth year, the annual London Open hardcourt bike polo tournament will be taking place across three courts in Highbury Fields, Islington on the 23rd – 25th August.

The London Open is the biggest tournament of it’s kind in the world – hosting 82 teams from 16 different countries last year. We’re improving the tournament this year by hosting it over three days, meaning more games for more players!

Bike polo tournament – August 17 2008

Put it in your diaries now, the next big London bike polo tournament will take place on August 17th 2008 in conjunction with the Shoreditch Festival and the Tour de Shoreditch. We are sorting an exciting new court which should be a great improvement on the Brick Lane area. The festival organisers are expecting around 5000 people to show up to the event so it will be a great showcase for polo.

If you are interested in taking part, post here to register your teams interest (or if you dont have a team to find other people who are in the same position). We also need volunteers to help out, leave a comment or post on that thread.

More details soon!

2008 is the centenary of London bike polo!

Kind of. Cycle polo was featured at as a demonstration sport in the London 1908 Summer Olympics. Ireland won. That;s about as much info as I can dig up, if anyone has any more please let me know!

I went a bit mysteriously quiet, mostly because I haven’t been down to polo in a while due to other things happening. However its still happening and getting even better with the weather warming up towards summer. Check the fixed gear forum for word on improving the polo court with walls.

Work is also ticking over on another polo tournament or two this summer. Watch this space!

World Hard Court Bike Polo Championships – Toronto June 2008

This is the info out there so far, who’s going?

Since CMWC 2003 in Seattle the messenger version of bike polo has been taking over the world. There are bragging rights from the east side, west side, north side and south side. Now it’s time to find which side will be World Champions.

CMWC XVI presents a complete World Championship Bike Polo Tournament. The winners will be declared the 2008 World Hard Court Bike Polo Champions.

The 6 tennis courts at Hanlan’s Point on the Toronto islands will be transformed in to 2 large fenced-in bike polo courts side by side that are surrounded by the main race course. We expect polo to be a popular event with spectators so there will be bleachers around the polo courts. Qualifying games will take place all day Saturday at the same time as qualifying for the main race. Polo players will be assigned earlier race qualifying time windows so that they may complete their race before their bike polo games.

The tournament will require extra organization which means that Teams will have to pre-register to enter the polo tournament. The complete details will be announced in a later update and will be prominent on the CMWC 2008 website. (cmwc2008.com)

The polo finals will take place on Sunday after the main race in front of what’s likely to be the largest crowd in hard court bike polo history. Toronto is a hockey crazed city that will appreciate the fast hard court action of “hockey-on-bikes.” We’re going to treat you like the pros you are as the finals will be filmed and include live play by play commentary.
